Booking Your Baby

The diary of a newborn and baby photographer is a complicated place! Nobody told your baby that they are expected to turn up for their portrait session and while some can’t wait to get here, some are fashionably late. This makes my diary a wonderfully fluid place!
When you first book your session you will be required to pay the non refundable booking fee to reserve your place in my diary. I take a limited number of newborn sessions each month so that I can ensure I can fit everybody in and work around midwife and health visitor appointments
once baby is here.

Preparing Your Baby

All babies in the first few weeks will have dry, patchy skin. Don’t be tempted to apply oil or cream just before your session as this will make their skin look shiny in photographs. i would much rather capture all those new, flaky patches that disappears all to quickly, than try and correct overly shiny skin in Photoshop. Do not worry too much about baby acne. Also please let me know if your baby has any allergies. If you feel it's not the best time for your session due to your baby health issues , please let me know as soon as you can. I may be able to deschedule our session for the other time.

Clothing

Depending on your choosen package -I may supply the beautiful outfits, hats and headbands for your baby to wear
or you may choose to bring your own clothing. I discourage parents from wanting to use standard everyday baby wear. It's too baggy to show of baby's form .I encourage that we use newborn prop based photography clothing which is much smaller and snuggler . Skip the busy patterns and texts on clothing. Keep it simple , soft subtle natural fabrics and patterns. Pastels, lace, knit is always good. Wraps. Floral rompers and hat or headbands. Be sure to keep them unobtrusive. We want the baby to be the focus of these piictures!
Pack some blankets , changing matts and anything else you feel you may need. Clothing consultation is included in every package. I am happy to recommend some cosy props suppliers if you would like to buy something special for your little one prior to session. If you have an heirloom piece or a special outfit, let your me know before your session so that they can plan to use any other suitable props with your item. Let me know your favourite colour. If the session is planned in advance and your booking fee is payed timely I will have a plenty of time to think about ideas and accessories we may use. Mom and dad should try to match also if you would like to receive a family portrait. Neutrals are best.

The Actual Session

Newborn photography sessions generally take place in the morning.
Don’t be surprised to hear that sessions can sometimes last up to 4 hours. Baby most definitely rules the roost! Not every baby will want to sleep, not every baby will want to be posed in certain positions. I will work at your baby’s pace.
Your newborn baby cannot yet regulate their own body temperature and will be spending a lot of the photoshoot in just a nappy and swaddled in blankets or naked. This means it will be quite warm in my little 'atelier' .(the optimum temperature is 28 degrees). Wear lots of layers that you can remove as the session progresses. I do my sessions in my little home made studio space .
You might see me taking what appears to be hundreds of photos! Please don’t panic I need to ensure I definitely have the best poses and moments possible and I probably can’t resist the bundle of cuteness in front of my camera.
I am trying to use natural light rather than bright studio lighting for my sessions as baby sight is sensitive.
I want you and your baby to feel relaxed and comfortable so you are able to feed on demand and put your feet up with refreshments and a magazine. The general rule of thumb is if your baby is in a pose that they wouldn’t naturally take up, they may need supporting by you.
It is perfectly ok to ask photographer to stop or abandon a pose if you begin to feel uncomfortable with your baby’s manipulation. Your baby will soon tell you if they are uncomfortable or being disturbed. If at any point during your newborn baby photography session you are not happy with anything you see - it is okay to ask me to stop. It’s also okay to ask to explain what is happening if you’re not sure about a pose. I will try my best to ensure your baby safety and I will allow you to watch your baby all the time, but please be aware I don't have any medical training.
Marita Jackowiak is not responsible for any injuries inflicted upon any participating parties. Client(s) will be responsible
for their children and for themselves .

After Session

I willl most likely want to upload 1-3 images from your session to my facebook page, as well as website. Remember how that helped you choose which photographer to book? Photographers rely on showcasing their most recent work to new customers.
Of course, if you’re really not comfortable with any of your images being uploaded online, pls inform me. Please share images with your family and friends. All image sizes are nominal. The photographer will provide a pleasing colour balance but cannot guarantee exact colour matching owing to anomalous reflectance caused by a combination of certain dyes and materials especially man-made fibres. It is sometimes impossible to record, the exact colour as seen by the human eye.
